I am the youngest of a long line of boys. There are eight of us in total to be exact. My parents are older. They started their family when my mom was in her early twenties, but by the time I was born well, they had aged some. I'd like to think this is the main reason I am an "old soul" but I have a feeling I was like this from the very beginning. I have approached life differently than most people my age from a very young age. I could have spent hours upon hours hearing my Grandparents talk about what life was like when they were kids. I'm fascinated by all things from the past and I often felt like I was born in the wrong Era, not just decade. If you have ever felt like that, chances are you are an old soul like me. Here are some tell-tale signs of being an Old Soul:

1. As a child you were often found sitting and talking with an adult instead of playing with the other kids. This doesn't mean you never played, but you really sincerely enjoyed conversing with adults and hearing all about things of the past.

2. You love books. You could sit in a used book store for days and be completely content. You love the smell of the old bindings and the feel of the paper on your fingers. Forget tapping an IPad, you want to fill your shelves with the real deal.

3. You have old ears. You hear Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, Nat King Cole, or even Elvis and Cash and it's music to your soul. Forget the radio and give me a record player.

4. You value deep relationships. You would rather not waste your time on surface level friendships, and half hearted relationships. You need deeper connections and quality over quantity. You love deeply and passionately and throw your heart into relationships you value.

5. You love people that are older than you. You adored your grandparents or those that are in their later years. You enjoy talking with them, and hearing about the history that you feel you were supposed to live in. You see an elderly person and have an urge to hug them and get to know them.

6. You feel like you were born in the wrong ERA. You don't think you were born in the wrong decade, you are certain without a doubt you were supposed to be born in a different Era. You admire trends and values and the lifestyle of much older decades. You get lost in movies and books that are set in Eras of the past. You find Marion Davies to be stunning and secretly wish you could pull off dressing like a flapper or 1920's trousers.

7. You are the definition of calm. You are often asked how you stay so even keel. You don't see the point in sweating the small stuff. Non-issues should remain non-issues, and if it's out of your control then there is no point stressing over it. You often tell people things like "kill 'em with kindness" because you see no point in holding onto bitter feelings.

8. You are a shoulder to lean on. You are the friend or family member that gets put in the middle of things because everyone knows you will listen. You have a natural ability to read people and delve out sincere empathy.

9. You love nothing more than a long deep conversation. You could stay up until the wee hours of the morning in deep conversation with a dear friend and feel refreshed the next day. You don't shy away from taboo topics and love covering topics that delve deep into people's lives and what makes them tick.

10. Lastly, you generally feel older than your peers. You may look at your peers and wonder what on earth they were thinking when they made certain decisions. You strategically make goals and achieve them, rather than treat life as an endless party. This isn't to say you don't love a good time, or a spontaneous adventure, you just have your life a little more thought out and together than others your age.

Chances are if you read this and thought "yep, that's me" for more than one, you my friend, are a beautiful OLD SOUL. Welcome to the life of feeling deeply and loving hard.
