10 Reasons Having All Brothers Is The Best

My tribe growing up was all boys. Seven older brothers to be exact. When people heard this they usually had one of two reactions: "Oh you poor thing, you must get picked on" or "You must be spoiled rotten". Then there was the seemingly obvious next question of "Your parents must have really wanted a girl?"
In reality yes I was picked on, but I was also spoiled. Also my parents weren't trying for a girl, and comments about gender are just rude. They wanted me. They wanted every single one of my brothers as well. Having all brothers has shaped my character, and even some of my life choices. It played a role in who I am today. Although I've had Olsen twin moments where I'd like to put one or two up for sale, at the end of the day I wouldn't trade my experience as the only girl for anything. Here's why having all brother's is the best:
You learn to deal with men at a VERY young age. You are overly prepared for life with a husband, because you have been raised surrounded in testosterone. You know how to push their buttons, and when to let them go grunt it out.
You learn to hold your own. You learn to stand your ground, and even fight back when needed. You are strong willed because you had to be, and you know how to make yourself heard.
You know how to get what you want. When you've had to fight your way through life, you learn to get what you want. You can only spend so many family nights watching The Gooney's or Mighty Ducks before you can't take it anymore. Balto was so worth giving away your scoop of ice cream.
Your mom takes you on shopping sprees, and you don't have to share the clothes. Because I was the only girl, my mom loved taking me shopping. Unfortunately since I was the only girl, I didn't love shopping the way my mom did. I rarely wore hand-me-downs, but when I did they were big comfy sweatshirts or T-shirts.
Someone always has your back. No matter if you are right or wrong, brothers are loyal. They will have your back and defend you against any jerk that wrongs you...whether it's a broken heart at 16 or a stranger in a bar.
You always have someone to get you through family events. Whether it be a funeral, wedding, or just a family dinner, you are always entertained. You have someone to be weird with, and make you laugh.
You know exactly who to call when life feels overwhelming. Because they have always had your back, you know at the end of the day you have them to turn to. Sometimes life is rough, and brothers, especially big brothers, give the best hugs and the best straight forward advice. Don't forget to call them for the good times too!
You know how to rock no makeup. It's a personal offense to them if you wear makeup, or dress like anything more than a tomboy. You learn to go natural and make it look damn good.
You are an expert at giving and receiving dead legs. You have had so many dead legs you really shouldn't be able to walk. Forget pepper spray though, because you can pack a punch.
You grew up with a best friend. I'll admit I wished for a sister more than once, but I wouldn't trade having only brothers for the world. Brothers don't steal your clothes (well, mine didn't anyway), they keep your secrets, and have your back. They are your partner in crime, even if you have been their scape goat more than once. They are loyal so odds are they will return the scape goat favor at some point.
