10 Things Every County Kid Can Relate To

When you live at the top of the NW you are always a drive away from a big city. Whether it's Seattle, Spokane, or Portand. Recently we drove down to Seattle to shoot a wedding and adventure in the big city. As we were entering downtown we were both excited for the change of pace. We love big city, and the sense of adventure and excitement it brings. We have to admit though, there is just something about the county, and at our roots we are really just two county girls. Here are some things that every county kid can relate to:

1. No matter where you go someone knows you- Going to a store in sweats is basically a double dog dare because you will see someone you know. If you don't know someone there, someone is sure to know who you are. "You're the *insert last name* girl!!" Yes, I am, and wishing I had a better spot to hide these tampons.

2. You live on a farm or know someone who does- I (Jaylin) grew up on a farm with cows, chickens, dogs, cats and goats. I especially loved our goats, and often wish I could go back out to the barn and sit with them for hours like I used too! Farm Fresh eggs are a bonus, and getting attacked by the rooster was unfortunately a regular occurance! Living on a farm you aren't afraid to get your hands or clothes dirty.

3. You Always Have Fresh Produce- We had a decent sized garden growing up. We could always rely on fresh veggies and fruits. Every county kid is also spoiled by the raspberries and strawberries from the local berry farms during the summer. As a child when you were solicited to pick berries, it was a safe bet more ended up in your mouth than in the bowl.

4. Your graduating class was less than 100 people. Back to the everyone know you, you know everyone...you literally do because the community is tight knit. Gossip spreads like wildfire, and you better believe your parents will find out about last Friday night because Jimmy's parents already know.

5. You have been stuck behind a tractor. Or a horse. Or a berry picker. Traffic in the city is bad, but county roads are narrow and if you get stuck behind a farmer you better get comfortable. They will pull over when they can, but the next drive way is still a county block away.

6. You aren't afraid to get dirty. You know how to work hard, and play hard. If someone says you can't do something, you don't mind getting a little sweat, dirt, or even blood on you to prove them wrong even with fresh manicured nails ;)

7. Woods are for adventures. You can't walk into woods in the county and not find an old fort or ten. Woods are for building trails, forts, and getting lost in with the neighborhood crew. If your mom needed a break, she sent you out to play and run wild.

8. Muddin is a real thing. Maybe it's in a truck, or maybe it's hanging onto an old hood of a car being pulled by a truck through a muddy field. This is the county, we know it's not safe, but chances are we'll try it at least once anyway.

9. Snow days are almost better than Christmas. Snow days in the county are a beautiful thing. Not just because school was canceled, but because if the wind was just right, the fields would turn into drifts that were prime for igloo making. Also with the roads closed due to drifting, driving the 4-wheeler down the roads was fair game.

10. You can see the stars. If you live in the city, that star you say you saw was probably an airplane, let's be real. The skyline is beautiful, but you haven't seen the stars until you've been to the country. There are no lights for miles in any direction so you have a clear unobstructed view of the stars. Try counting them, dare ya.
