Quick French Bread

We are in the PB+J season of toddlerhood at our house. There is a back up jar to my back up jar. You might think that is a joke, but I'm being dead serious. Our go to grain bread was expired, so I decided to take a swing at a new loaf of bread. It was so good, I thought I'd share. Lately we are big fans of doing things from scratch, and being more mindful of what is in our foods. I was so happy with how quickly this came together, and it was a huge hit with everyone that tried it.

Ingredients:

-2 Tblsp Active Dry Yeast

-1 1/2 Cup warm water

-1 Tblsp honey

-1 1/2 Tsp salt

-3 1/2 -4 1/2 cups flour (I used about 4 here in the PNW)

Instructions:

-Combine water, salt, yeast, and honey in a large bowl, or stand mixer. Let sit for 5-10 minutes, until foamy.

-Add in flour one cup at a time, using dough hook.

-Place on floured surface and knead for roughly 5 more minutes once all the flour is well mixed and a ball has formed.

-Preheat oven to 450

-Form the dough into a loaf 12-14" roll. Place on a greased cookie sheet and cover. Let rise at least 15 minutes or until it's about doubled.

-Make 3 1/2" slits in the top to give an artisan look.

-Bake 18-20 minutes.

Great for sandwiches, toast, french toast, or just enjoying warm.
